Celebrities Inspire Fashion Jewelry Trends

By April Babish

Even in the early days of Hollywood the public looked to the stars to determine what is fashionable and what was not. After all these celebrities were expected to always be glamorous and in vogue. Some of the popular jewelries were based on what the stars were wearing. Heavy metal dangling earrings were fashionable when silent movies were still the trend. When sound was incorporated in the movies, the rattling of these earrings overwhelm the actor's voices and so tighter fitting jewelries replaced the dangling ones. The public noticed and the tighter fitting earrings became popularized.

Not much has changed at present for the public, who is still pays very close attention to what the stars are wearing. This is evident in the way the stars have to dress up for the Oscars because they know people are looking at what they wear. The celebrities are both fortunate and unfortunate in events such as these. They get to wear expensive designer jewelries and they get the publicity that they want. However, they rarely own these jewelries but the jewelers get free advertising.

At any rate, celebrity inspired jewelry is becoming increasingly popular and imitations are selling well. The way the stars influence current trends is evident with the media's circus over celebrity engagement rings. The engagement of Catherine Zeta-Jones to Michael Douglas was sealed with a 10-carat marquise diamond. Jennifer Lopez's finger glittered with a 6-carat pink diamond when Ben Affleck asked for her hand in marriage.

Popular TV shows like "The Sex and the City" and movies like ''Fools Gold'' also influence fashion trends. The horseshoe necklace worn by Carrie Bradshaw, Sarah Jessica Parker, in this widely watched TV series is among the top 10 online celebrity jewelries. Another one of the best online sellers is the palm tree pendant worn by Kate Hudson in the movie ''Fools Gold''. Imitation of pendants worn by Brittany Murphy, Madonna, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Jennifer Lopez are on the top list of celebrity jewelries that are considered very stylish. Gwyneth Paltrow's drop earrings, Paris Hilton's drop chandelier earrings, Jennifer Aniston's stud earrings, Jessica Simpson's hoop earrings and Jessica Biel's dazzling stud earrings which was given by boyfriend Justin Timberlake all rank in the Top 20 of online celebrity jewelries. As long as celebrities exist, our fascination for them and the jewelries they wear will always be present.

Anna Beck Jewelry Designs

About Anna Beck

All pieces are handmade in Bali and are sterling silver and 18k gold plated. Each jewelry piece is made with a different ancient Balinese technique that dates back hundreds of years. Designer Becky Hosmer resides in Los Angeles and oversees production several times a year in Bali.

About Becky Hosmer

Becky Hosmer’s affair with jewelry starts back in her college days, when she had the opportunity to travel the world. She was profoundly inspired by the abundance of color and handmade art throughout Asia. After many trips to Nepal, the Himalayas, Tibet, and Thailand Becky gained interest in the jewelry-making craft.

By the time she made her way to Bali, she was already involved in jewelry and foreign trade. Bali opened up the door for Becky to learn intricate native metal work techniques that possessed an ancient look, but were still very modern. This was something she had never seen before. She soon began designing her own pieces, working with a Balinese artisan. Originally made for her own personal jewelry collection, it wasn’t long before she landed in high end stores around the United States. This is how Anna Beck Designs came to life in 2003.

Becky has had the opportunity to be inspired by a place that she truly loves. She is now based in Bali to oversee production and work on new designs. As Anna Beck Designs continues to grow, so does Becky’s understanding of the Balinese people and culture. She is often inspired by the colorful and spiritual people of Bali and its stunning surrounding; that inspiration can be seen in all of her collections.

Publicity

Los Angeles based Anna Beck Designs is a contemporary jewelry collection that uses one of the oldest jewelry making techniques in the exotic Far East. Timeless necklaces, rings, bracelets, earrings and cuffs are handcrafted on the island of Bali. And while the primary elements in the designs are elegant gold and silver, earthy semi-precious stones like Jasper and Onyx do make rare appearances.

Each piece in the collection is layered with tiny gold or silver disks, with each disk of precious metal individually cut and affixed to the metal base. “It’s a traditional art form. The first time I saw it, I fell in love.” explains owner and designer Rebecca Hosmer.

The unusual technique gives Hosmer’s classic styles added interest and excitement, and has attracted many fans including celebrity fashion icons Jessica Alba, Kirsten Dunst, Nicole Richie, Kate Bosworth, Mary J. Blige and Hilary Duff.

Anna Beck jewelry is sold at elite boutiques nationwide like Bettina Duncan at Fred Segal in Los Angeles, Scoop in New York and many cities in between. Individual pieces retail from $88 to $500.

Fashion Or Trend Jewelry Defined

By Douglas Clemens

I often compare this exciting and colorful category to the wide ties, narrow ties, mini-skirts, long skirts, concept of jewelry design. You could easily sum it up with "what goes around, comes around". This sometimes happens at what most would consider lightning speed. Fashion Jewelry is the fastest changing segment of the entire Jewelry industry. It has to be. And for good reason.

Remember when Fashion Jewelry was referred to as Costume Jewelry? Although the name is still used you have to admit the phrase Fashion Jewelry has a lot more appeal. Marketing experts and department store buying departments came up with an even more precisely defined term.Trend Jewelry. Trends and new trend-setting is really the whole point to this segment of the jewelry industry. The "why" is affordability. With retail prices in the single and low double digits you must have a super-fast turnover in inventory in order to have a profitable market. Rapid style change is necessary for creating a need, or at the very least, a desire to buy.

A few of the many ways these trends or fads get started are major manufacturers with talented designers who continue to create new and exciting styles. Also, costume designers and stylists behind the scenes of the television and film industry can sometimes be the real trend-setters in our pop culture environment. These people usually are the first to see new designs because vendors are literally kicking down their doors daily with the latest and hopefully "hottest" merchandise looking for exposure to huge audiences. In addition, major celebrities have personal shoppers that are seeking the very latest designs, usually in Fine Jewelry, for their clients. Soon after we see that $10,000.00 piece photographed on a celebrity in "Cosmo" it's translated to the $10.00 version available at your nearest department store. As an example, the "Y Neck" enjoyed tremendous popularity just a few years ago. That particular style made it's debut on the TV show "Friends." This design was so red hot..... it's back! Just change the name to Lariat and here we go again. Another winner!

Affordability of fashion jewelry is accomplished by mass production and the use inexpensive raw materials. Base metal (an all inclusive term for non-precious metals e.g.Tin, Lead, Nickel) is utilized. Beaded pieces may include anything from resin, wood, shell, seeds, crystals, glass and more. Style and color with perhaps a designer name is what you are paying for. Fashion or Trend Jewelry is fun. Wear it and enjoy! But like those skirts and ties....hang on to those pieces and in no time at all you'll be right on top of the latest trend right in your own jewelry box

Just a Tip: When purchasing Fashion Jewelry Earrings always look for hooks or posts made from surgical steel.

Fashion Jewellery - Ten Trends For 2009

By Nicholas Watson

Wondering what the top fashion jewellery trends are going to be for 2009? How will the credit crunch affect jewellery fashions this year?

This timely 10 point guide tells you what should you be looking out for if you're buying, designing or making jewellery in 2009.

1. Exotic and ethnic inspirations will remain a big feature for all accessories in 2009, particularly jewellery. Think tribal jewellery, think safari khakis as well as seed beads, chunky beads, wood, ceramics, plastic and leather. Especially if it's handcrafted jewellery.

2. Gold is becoming more expensive amid the global economic downturn, so many women are turning to other materials as an alternative. Silver is always popular, and brass is going to be big this year. Look out also for platinum, an affordable alternative to the more expensive metals.

3. Cool yellows, greens and turquoise will be the colours of the spring and summer. The economic gloom means you can also bank on classic black and white to capture a timeless elegance and discreet chic. After all, some fashion jewellery trends never go away.

4. On a related note, if you're feeling bold, experiment with clashing colours in your clothes and jewellery. Several influential trendspotters have identified mixing bold outfits with bold jewellery as one of the key fashion jewellery trends of the year. Maybe it's to banish all the financial doom and gloom.

5. Bold statement jewellery, which was popular in 2008, will remain a hit. Be it tribal jewellery, handcrafted jewellery or big geometric designs, big is beautiful.

6. As will big flowers and butterflies. Fashion loves a good motif, and in Spring and Summer 2009, it'll be the butterfly.

7. With earrings, dangles and chandeliers are going to remain popular choices.

8. Jewellery with a story: the trend of 2008 will grow as ethically-sourced jewellery continues to capture hearts and minds, as well as our eye. Fair trade jewellery and environmentally-friendly materials are set to take 2009 by storm.

9. Cuffs and chunky bracelets. Particularly, if it's a tribal jewellery look.

10. Handcrafted jewellery. As we question what went wrong to land us in this economic mess, it's time to go back to what's true and honest. The value and beauty of jewellery that's handmade will be a major trend in 2009 and beyond as we begin to appreciate the beauty of artisanal work over the mass-produced.

Bear these little pointers in mind and you'll be all set for a great 2009. Most of all, enjoy dressing up with accessories, and what's best, there's loads of fresh fashion jewellery out there to discover that's original and won't break the bank!
